Just got my new knife. A custom job with some extra work done on it by a knifemaker here in Sunny Oz.

It's a big heavy bugger with a quarter inch thick blade. I just used it to cut back some bush in the garden. Did a terrific job.

Here it is, I've included the SnG so you get an idea of its size.

(Please excuse the crappy photos, they were done in a hurry after I'd tested it out a bit.)

Ah, I can see from that knife that you Australians are short, scrawny guys. :)

Nice solid looking blade. The handle is especially attractive, both the excellent design of it and the color pattern.

I generally carry thinner knives but there is just something primal and viscerally pleasing about chopping with a big and heavy and wide bladed knife. I even find myself manufacturing reasons to use one when a hand or reciprocating saw- or even a pair of pruners- would just make more sense.

That looks like a nice one.

Thanks guys. I also get a bit of pleasure out of hacking away at a bush with something like that, which I did yesterday. Pruning shears are so ghey! :D

Here are the specs as given to me:

1095 steel
1/4 inch thick
30cm (12') approx in overall length
16cm (6 1/4') approx blade
12.5cm (5') approx handle

Full flat grind
V grind edge
RED & BLACK micarta handle slabs, heavily contoured
pinned and glued

i wouldn't go using to prune the grevilleas but round here the deer hide in the lantana. theres plenty to chop.nice one.
