I gave this Bowie an eight inch blade of 1084 & 15N20. The pattern is five pieces of low layer right hand twist, stacked and surface ground (like a Turkish). I cut a bird's mouth into the tip so the layers would follow the tip. The handle is blackwood w/ 416 & brass fittings.

Let me know what you think. (I thought that it resembled a jelly roll type pattern.)

Very nice. What are the dimensions on the bars when you stack them?

They were 3/4" x 3/4" when I twisted (9 layers) & stacked. After welding, I surface ground approx. 1/3 off from each side.

Wow, only 9 layers? That is a bold pattern. It looks very nice. Do you surface grind the welding surfaces of he bars before you tack them together?

I took enough off to give me a clean flat surface most of the way across.
