Well a trip to a small West Texas hardware store netted me some finds. I got a NIB LB7 which happened to have a serial number on the bolster starting with an AA so it may have been there a while. I got the last 97OT Buzzsaw trapper (display) they had and the tang says Schrade and not Schrade+. Could this be carbon and not stainless? I also picked up a brand spanking new 808 which is very nice. Must have been there I little while I'm thinking. I got to talking with the owner who he and his father owned the place for over a hundred years and it was the most pleasant afternoon. We talked history, antiques, Indian artifacts, and of course knives. In the end he gave me a brand new sheath that I'm not sure what it was made for. It is dark brown and has Schrade on the top. It won't hold more than the 808 I bought from him. It is sort of square shaped like it might hold a stone similar to the one on the 153UH sheaths. Any ideas on what was supposed to be in that sheath?

Is it a knife purse, or a sheath, sheath will have belt accessibility. A pic would really help LT

My digital camera died on me so I don't have a picture.

It is definitely a sheath because it has the loop on the back. It is only 3-1/2 inches long and about 1-3/4 inches wide. The molded part will only hold an object or knife that is 3/4 inch wide and about 2-3/4 inches long. It has a button snap with schrade on it and the flap also has schrade on it. It looks like a miniture version of what comes with the 97OT only this small sheath is dyed a dark brown. The stitching is also dark brown.

I just got two 97OTs with sheaths.

One has Schrade stamped on the tang, and I think it is carbon steel. The sheath is very ugly, made of thin, cheap leather, no 'Schrade' lettering on it.

The other has STAINLESS stamped on the reverse of the tang, but came in a very nice, proper Schrade sheath.

Both have UH delrin scales, but no UH shield, in fact no shield at all.

Are these late production knives, or something else ?

They are both very well finished, great snap, great fit, liner lock for saw blades works perfectly.

I will be giving away the STAINLESS stamped one.
