For now, this one belongs to my lady...she's going to test it out and see if she likes it (that's her pocket it's stuck in on the page above).

This is, so far, my favorite and most viable "replacement karda". It fits all of my 14"+ khukuri scabbards and can be carried on its own, of course.

Anyway, thanks for lookin'.

Very nice, Dan. Clean lines, curved spine, and I love the way the handle narrows towards the blade. I hope you bring a few of these to the Napa show ;)

Typical Koster fit and finish, great design, and attention to detail. :D

Very handy and useful looking little fixed blade, goes without saying it's extremely well made. By golly Dan, you make us all proud buddy.

The K3 is very nice and reminds me a bit of your Dankura. I still like the K1 though. Maybe I need one of each? :D Let me know when you get some made up.

Wow!!! What a craftsman you are! As a newbie here I want you to know you are blowing me away!!! I love this site. It's so much better than searching e-bay all day for my knife fix.

That's just lovely. Really sweet.

Never would have thought of box elder for a handle ... the pieces I've seen have usually had a bit of pink in the grain.

Another beauty, Dan. Nice practical sheath, too.

Is that a red oak handle?

I can only report what I was told - that it was a rare Box Elder fiddleback. It is lighter in weight and color than maple fiddleback. More dry and less dense too. It was almost white when I started with it. Just a slight tint of tan. Finish work brought out the color more. The figure has a nice 3D effect to it that you don't get from the photograph.

Aardvark - the more I look at the pic (and forget what it's like "in person") the more it does look like oak. darn camera tricks....:D

What I like about a lot of Dans stuff is how original it is.

Seems like a lot of custom knife guys are making stuff that looks like 99% of the other knife guys.

Dan I always kind of feel comes from the khukuri end of the spectrum and even when he isn't making khukuris or something it is neat how his knives have a little bit of that in them. Really sets them apart in my opinion.

I got paid one of the best compliments the other day...I was working in Tom Krein's shop when I pulled out one of my "crazy designs" and showed it to him. In fact, now that I think about it...it was this very knife.

Tom's a great knifemaker and has nailed down his "way of doing things" to a tee. He knows what works and what doesn't. He also makes small working knives, so he's got a grasp on what a neck knife should be.

Anyway, he took one look at it, looked at me, held his breath and then said "Well, it's definitely your style, Dan.....Curvy as Hell..."

:D :p

I knew I had reached my stride that day...

He also said it looked like it'd be a "cutting sonuvab****....."

Back to work! Gotta go get my Khuk on.....:p

Ok, where do I sign up for one of them SWEET little blades? And how do I arrange payment and shipping to Iraq? :D That looks like just the tool I been looking for.

When can we expect DK knives to start making that one a standard? (Back ordered, of course!)

Bill - any knife headed to Iraq is PAID FOR with Free Shipping.

Email me an addy and give me a week or two to get one finished.

Wow! Thats really nice of you!
A great looking blade there, as well.

Dan,
I don't know what to say, other than thank you, very much.
Oh, and email sent.
I think there will be a couple of very happy soldiers in Iraq soon.

Make that two kardas. A fellow forumite has anonymously offered to send another over. That one will go to you, Bill - and the one from me can go to a fellow soldier.

Godspeed, brother!
