I just ran into my friend Richard from Knifemart. He showed me some interesting hardware and gave me the latest, most up-to-date information on Monarch.

The last bits of machining are being finished up today. They've got a fixed date to have them laser tang-stamped later this week. He expects to receive delivery of all 200 pieces this Thursday or Friday and will begin shipping next Monday. The only thing that may hold up getting all 200 shipped next week is sheaths. (At least 45 are expected to ship next week since sheaths for them are already done.)

Did I say sheaths? Oh yes, there are sheaths... and not some fall-appart thing that doesn't really fit. No, these are custom-made leather sheaths, horizontal-belt style with a metal snap. Very nice!

On, and with Monarch just about out the door, he's started on his next balisong project: a tanto. Expect it early next year.

With Benchmades big unveiling, the OCYRUS announcement, and the Monarch shipments, this promises to be an exciting week!!! :)

Tried to go order one, but couldnt get to knifemart.com...anyone else having problems or is it just me?

Try phoning. The number's 800-331-3213.

You can get the latest scoop while you have them on the line, too. :)

Now Chuck did you mean that some may ship on Sept 11(monday for us folks) in the US or next monday the 18, Need to know as I'm moving soon and need to make sure UPS goes to my new house. :-)

It should have been more clear. It's a cultural thing. In the US, we consider Sunday to be the first day of the week. Today is Sunday. So, when I say that they will be finished and laser-marked this week, and will ship starting next Monday, that means September 17th. Sorry about that.

Keep in mind that Knifemart is a fairly small operation. Shipping 200 more than their usual number of other orders in one week is going to be quite a task for them. I know that Richard is very eager to get these all to their proud new owners, but it will not surprise me if all 200 don't get out next week simply because of logistics issues.

What order will they be shipped in? Mine first, of course, and after that I don't know. They're not serial numbered, so that's not an issue. My guess, and it's just a guess, is that it'll be based on zip code (not necessarily in strict zip-code order) since that's how shippers often want to receive large groups of packages. But, that's just wild speculation on my part.

Anyway, realistically speaking, your Monarch and its handsome leather sheath is probably two to three weeks away.

FWIW, when I called a couple of weeks ago to update my address (moved at the end of August), it was my understanding that he intended to ship them based on when the order was received (he commented that I had placed my order early, and mine would go out in the initial batch. :) )

Appreciate the update...I was going to call Richard tomorrow...appreciated!

I went to the gun show last weekend at the Portland Expo Center, and, of course, stopped at the Knife Mart tables. I got to handle three of the Monarchs they had on display. My opinion is that they are extremely well made, tho I think the handles are too rounded (for me). Blade is very nice - massive tang pin, equally massive pivot pins, latch that can be switched from Manilla to Batangas or removed entirely, nicely machined handles - overall a nice piece!

No - I didn't buy one (didn't have the $189 I was quoted on it), and figured I'd wait and see how people liked the way they manipulated. I did not manipulate it, didn't even ask too, since it was at a show, with lots of folks around, and glass showcases all over their tables!

The sheaths they had those three knives with were nylon - but fairly well made and made FOR those knives.

Tony,

I'm not mistaken on the price I was quoted - I remember 'cause the guy that quoted it to me was the rudest individual I've dealt with at a gunshow in quite some time. Don't know who he is.

Could well be that it was a prototype. The one I looked closest at had no markings on it at all (and was quite dinged up from being manipulated) - plus it had a nylon rather than leather sheath.

At $130 they'd be a bargain - tho I still won't get one because I'm saving for something else in the bali line <BG>

What was the blade type like couteaux (or anyone else)? Was it a Bowie or a Weehawk? I cant tell from the pics at Knifemart.

Looks like a bowie to me................:D

Anything new? I thought shipping was to begin in the week of 9/17/01? Has anyone received their Monarch but is too busy playing with it to post their review/comments?

Has anyone contacted Knifemart lately? I can't remember their number, and their web page has not worked (at least this past weekend). Any Monarch updates would be appreciated as well(balisong content:p).

Talked to Richard today, and he said the first batch of latches were made too long. They are having another machine shop make up 50 correct latches this week. They should be shipping at least 50 knives next Monday 10/1/2001

:)

A Talonite bali? That sounds interesting... if you get anymore info please post it :) (not that I could afford one, it's just nice to know what's out there).
