I went to Smokey Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville, TN,(just a few miles from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge) this past weekend. If you've never been, you should go. It's mind blowing the first time. They had plain-edged Kershaw Cyclones on sale for just thirty dollars (plus tax), so I got one. I'm loving it so far. Yeah, yeah, I know it's a discontinued model and some folks claim the assisted opening is prone to breaking, but even in the event of that happening I think it would still open and lock manually, and I just couldn't pass up such a low price. It's not even listed on SMKW's website for that low of a price. So I'm pleased so far with it. It's got a very solid lockup and came out of the box very sharp, and after a few minutes on an ultra fine DMT and a strop it is just crazy sharp. I love the big, wide, leaf-shaped blade. I also like that the pocket clip can be switched from tip up to tip down carry, though it is right hand only. My only complaint is with the black finish on the handle, which already has a few scratches and scuffs on it from my car keys rubbing on it in my pocket. But so far, so good. And for just 30 bucks! My Skyline and OD-1 were each around that much, and, while they are both excellent knives in my opinion, they aren't nearly as massive in hand as the Cyclone is. They look tiny laying beside it. A year ago, I'd never purchased a Kershaw, and now I have three. It's turning into an addiction! Now I want a Leek. Well, those are my first impressions so far. Anyone else stumbled up on a good deal on a good knife lately?

I just purchased a discontinued Buck Sirus from their website. I got it for $30 plus shipping. They're still selling on ebay for $60.

I got a CRKT Lake's P.A.L. folder for $25 from SMKW a year or so ago, and that was 25% of retail, and BELOW dealer cost.

I received a flyer from SMKW a day or two ago advertising that they are having a "Rep Weekend Event" on Oct. 16th - 18th. It may be worth a trip back.

Discontinued models can be had cheap, if you catch the right time and place.:D

Enjoy you Cyclone. It's an excellent model.

I too, purchased a kershaw on sale at smkw a few months ago, the leek model on sale for $29.95, bought two of them. My first kershaw ever. Great value for the price.

Latest knife arrived: CRKT Drifter SS, latest knife bought ( still in mail ) Kershaw Zing with Orange handles. Kershaw cost me $54 with with International shipping ($16 + Insurances $2,50) Drifter was $34 with insurances and international shipping ( was cheaper than my Spyderco Ladybug 3 Salt :P )

Nothing beats getting a good knife you are satisfied with at a cheap price!

I just got the new catalog from SMKW, and there are some amazing deals on some knives.. The S&W section is very tempting.. I am not a huge fan of S&W knives, but to get them for 6.99 each is worth getting a matching set of each style!

$6.99? Shoot, what have you got to lose?

Every now and then, Knives Live (SMKW) has some real bargains. I've picked up several really good knives over the years on the cheap. But you've got to be willing to sit through hours on end of Rough Rider slipjoints to find the gems. Or you can do what I do and record the show on a DVR. Then watch something else and during each commercial break, fast foward through the Knives Live segment you recorded since the last commercial break. Works like a charm . . . at least it does for me.

SMKW is a fun place to visit.:) Did they have any deals on the old style Ener-G 2? They are a real steal on that bay place right now. Got one on the way $16.10 +5.95 shipping. They list for $99 on Kershaw's web site

They (SMKW) have a decent price on them on their website, but I don't recall looking at one in the showroom. There are so many knives in there I just couldn't get a chance to see all of them. So many blades, so little time.
Word of advice to those who haven't been: don't even go in there if you're in a hurry like I was on my last visit. Next time I plan to spend more time there.

Just Purchased Kershaw Skyline for $30,95+shipping. I'll probably get in 14 to 16 days ^^ I can't wait to have it ^^

Strider SMF-T RW-1, Strider SMF CC SW and Busse Tank Buster in the last week.

Have another Busse Tank Buster on order too.

Didn't come from SMKW, but my latest came this past Friday and are a Ontario Ranger RD-9, and a ZT0500 MUDD. Last time I visited SMKW I was married and stayed all of 45 mins, with my wife rushing me for 30 of those minutes. I finally gave up and left. I havn't been back now that I am single, but when I do go I suspect I will spend several hours with absolutely noone rushing me up!

Not from SMKW, but from Cutlery Shoppe, I got a Buck Vantage Pro in G10 scales and s30v blade. Really cool all around $48 including shipping.

Cbach8tw,
Have you posted a review of that knife anywhere? If so, could you post a link here? I've been thinking of getting one of those, but SMKW didn't have one in the showroom. They did have the black plastic handled (zytel?) version, but it doesn't have s30v. How's the lock-up? Doesn't Buck call the handle material "black diamond wood" or something like that; is that just their fancy-talk for G10? If so, they'd be better off just calling it G10 so folks would know what they're talking about, in my opinion. Either way, with s30v and that low carry clip, it looks like a sweet knife. I know it's not assisted like a Kershaw, but does that blade kick allow you to flip it open easily?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I know the feeling. Some women have no appreciation for the finer things in life. Why do they think it is reasonable for them to expect their man to follow them around some clothing outlet mall for two hours, but then they try to hurry us through a place as huge as SMKW in 15 minutes? I could easily spend three hours in knife a place like that. My wife did enjoy Newgraham Knives in Bluefield, Virgina, but that's because it had a store full of nick-nacks and what-nots attached to it. Unless you are lucky enough to have a knife-aholic woman (if they indeed do exist), you're better off going solo to a place like SMKW. No offense to any ladies here, though if they are reading this then they are probably one of those quasi-mythical knife nuts of the fairer gender.

I think I am lucky few. My girl friend is excited about knives, blades anything sharp and guns. We share similar intrests ^^ I promised to teach her shoot with guns once I find suitable range.

You and me both. Recently, my wife expressed that she thinks it is not only acceptable, but a good idea for me to purchase another firearm. :D

Sweet, you're lucky man. Only problem is that currently we're apart due fact she lives in Australia and I live in Finland. Once I get my university papers out and I'll probably move into Australia ( sucks for knife laws but at least she lives in Queensland so I safely carry a slipjoint victorinox) I just wonder what I shall do my knife collection then... Perhaps I get them into Australia somehow...

I just can't wait to receive my Kershaw Skyline...

Well for most women is all about them, and always for them etc, they can deny it but they would be lying.

It's rare to find one who thinks about someone other than themselves or what they want.

And to fine the very rare one who like guns and knives is a real keeper.
