Latest off the bench

wow pretty cool looking piece you have there. give us some more specs on it. what grit did you sand it to? whats the blade steel? looks really nice

Very Cool! even cooler that you can take it down?

Come on, give, what are the specs?

Now that's what I'm talkin about! There are tantos and there are tantos...this is the real thing. I keep thinking I want to do something like that but never have the courage to attempt the habaki. This is just stunning. Give yourself some hearty pats on the back. Thanks for sharing, and ditto the above questions.

Great job Bob. I heard how much work went into that habaki, it came out great. The takedown feature is always cool. I don't think I would ever be able to sell a knife if it wasn't for epoxy. Ol' Bob here can make just about anything, keep 'em coming and again, nice job.

That's a beautiful piece, Bob. I've only made "Americanized" tantos, but never anything as authentic and nice as that. It's definitely a study into another dimension of the craft, isn't it? Well done!

Thanks all for a wonderfull reveiw, It is made from 3/16, 1080 bar stock, I hand rubbed it down to 1500 gave it an etch in ferric chloride then hand polished it with blue magic metal polishing cream.

Like I mentioned in the other forum, that is very nice!!! I had to come here and check it out again. :D

Can someone please post these pics in a manner where the poor forum peasants can see it too?
Apparently, we're on a 'no pay, no see the attatchments' system until further notice.

Thanks if you can help.

All the best,
Mike U.

I'd like to see them too!

Just checking to see if you can still post pics the old fashioned way.

Guess so!

Thank you very much, Mr. Appleby!

Thats the style of tanto that is near and dear to my heart. Forget the Americanized tantos, that type is much more useful to me. You did a fine rendition there cuz that blade ROCKS!

Also, sorry about the delay in getting back to you here. We're battening down the hatches and everything else here and I've been busy doing that yesterday and part of today.
The weather guesstimators had hurricane Francis' eye passing right over my town in their projections yesterday and on and off again today.

All the best and have a HAPPY HURRICANE! :D

Dang it, Don! Where'd you get that pic of my mom?

I just wish he'd posted a larger picture. With my eye the way they are, I can barely see it. ;)
