I believe you have a budding knife for pecan growers. Used to cut and graft buds on a precise piece of bark, to add a branch where you want it.

I've never seen one of those. Cool, now I have a reason to get out Levine's book and do some searching.

This is pure conjecture, but I wonder if the blades are intended to be used in tandem, to create a specifically spaced pair of cuts the same way every time. This really has my interest piqued.

Hey Don,
Looks as if the center wood could be hollowed out and would make a good place to hide a knife.

Thanks Jake and David,I had just googled that very thread.Quite interesting. With the iron bolsters and it looks like the pivot pin is hand peened.I'm thinking it's quite old.I love finding oddball stuff like this.

Thats a really neat find Don!..well done, that is one very interesting knife-just WOW!
I find it most embarrassing looking back....this was my FIRST introduction to Folders...... I havent stopped spiralling ( downwards ) yet!!

If the thread had been struggling, I might have moved it. But the answers have been forthcoming right here, so there was no need.

Page 197 in Bernard's book, #IV of course, has a pretty good write up about these Budding/Grafting knives.
Cool find. If I'd found one I think I would have bought it just because I didn't know what it was.

I guess I was confused, I posted an odd pocket knife and Peregrin moved in in less than two hours after two posts. Ill get the hang of this yet...
