Just wondering if they are a good weight for general sheath work, or a bit heavy? Also, what do people think about the price to quality ratio on this particular item?

John I believe that for sheath work, 8oz is about ideal...as for the quality of this leather, it's a good place to start.
Yes, there's better leather out there, but it will cost you twice as much......
I always recommend Tandy leather for those just getting started and trying to find their inner leather crafter self

I went in today and saw what they had in person. It allowed me to get the best one of about eight. I also dropped quite a bit on supplies, but it was nice to be able to see everything and talk to the people there.
