I read that the majoritiy of them are made in China, just like the Smitty. but I know more about HOT relish than Grizzly lathe. Right Tom?

that is a pretty general statement....most of the lousy ones are made there, the best ones are made in switzerland, austria, and germany, the next best in the good ole usa. why buy a cheap import when you can find a good used solid machine that was made right here for the SAME amount of money...I have a 10" Heavy south bend that was made before i was and is going strong....got it for way under a grand....

Thanks for the replies. I think I may take Tom's advice and look around for a good used American made lathe. When George told me he made hot relish, he was serious. I've seen forges that can't match the heat this stuff generates. I told him last night that I set it down next to a raw steak for a few minutes and when I came back the steak was already medium rare.
