A buddy of mine gave me an old forged 3lb double bit axe head so I had to make a sheath for it.:D I'll post pics of the axe when I finish cleaning it up and hafting it. Here's the sheath for now.

Best regards

Robin

Beautiful...just beautiful. You should post some how-to's on youtube for these things! :D

I am going to post a how to on here sometime in the near future for the good folks in the hawk and axe forum. Thanks for your comments bud.

Hi Randy
Latigo will hold the tooling but not as well as veggietan, it sometimes gets fainter as time goes by. This hide i got seems to hold it pretty well if you hit it a bit harder to go deeper.

What would make you recommend Latigo leather over regular tooling leather?

If you wanted extensive tooling I wouldn't but for carbon steel blades it offers a bit of extra protection from rust because it's oil tanned. Think about the abuse that harness takes out in the sun and rain for years and still stays supple. The other thing is if you want to you can add oil to the inside of the sheath without it staining the sheath too much on the outside as it seeps through the leather. The one problem is that it only comes in the burgundy and black but neither show the extra oil too much. This particular hide is also much heavier than you can easily get normally. It makes a great sheath for a hard working axe IMO.
