Laughed so hard, I almost peed myself!

It's not so funny when you stop and realize that it is all private property owned by citizens and stolen by the gov't. If I wanted to make a donation, I'd write a check.

Yeah, but it's the same thing with police auctions. (Not that I agree with it.)
In a lot of places the police can auction off your belongings before your even convicted of the crime for which you got your things confiscated. It's entirely possible for you to be completely innocent and still have all your stuff sold off at auction before your court case is over. Now THAT's phucked up!

Hah, that's pretty funny. Sucks for the people who own those things, though. I spotted four knives in those pictures that I own.

A pretty murky area - I would be surprised if litigation did not result from this.

Maybe they should start selling confiscated firearms on E-Bay too.

... the cost of administering these sales on eBay is several times what they'll take in?

"Yes, but it creates jobs, and helps assure the survival of state bureaucracy!"

Why don't they? Not on ebay, of course, because firearms and automatic knives aren't legal to sell on ebay. But why can't they do that somewhere else, like auctionarms.com? How is it worse than selling someone's letherman?

Edit: Or did you just mean it's kind of ironic that the government would be putting weapons back into circulation?

They'ev been doing it for a while now. There was even a thread on this a while back.

Not only is it screwed-up, selling personal belongings of people who have not comitted any crimes, but can someone explain to me what exactly was prevented by taking these things away?

I have two comments to this that others have touched on already:

1) If these items are so horrible that law-abiding citizens are not allowed to carry them onto an airplane, why is the government selling them instead of destroying them?

2) If the government is selling them rather than destroying them, what stops them from issuing claim tags to the gate guards so that the actual owner of the property can get the item back. If its solely about saefty, this method would respect both safety and property. Sure it might cost the government a little, but the whole stinking setup costs a fortune. Let people have the option and charge $5 to redeem the item. Something, anything, besides the crazy and unpredictable system they have now.

Good point. You shouldn't have to buy your belongs back on Ebay!

You have the option of sending the item back to your home when you are at the airport. When you refuse that, you are essentially giving your knife/scissors/whatever to the government.

You DO have the option of sending it home? How? I've never heard of that. I always thought you were SCREWED if you entered security with a knife or something like one.

I'm not doubting you. I've just never heard that you can do that.
Give us some details on how that works, please.

It would be a great service to the knife community to know how to do that. Thanks!:)

They had a lot of red, white, and blue Leatherman Micra's. That disgusts me, taking MICRAS away from innocent people to make us all "safer" and then selling for for a profit and acting all patriotic about the whole deal

On a lighter note, this made me laugh:
Neutral : No response to e-mails. Finally gave up and voided transaction.

Response by californiagold2000 - Did not receive emails timely, due to power outages when emails were sent.

That is pretty ironic. The sad part is the morons reelected Davis.

From Dave K:
This is way off topic but here's a $76K forklift for $35:

Actually that is at least a few 100K worth of forklift. I knew a guy who had a business renting those tiny "Cat" bulldozers to construction companies and the most simple of those on the basic line started at $112,000.
