A really wonderful example of art in knives. In fact, it's the beauty of art in folders that's causing me to pick up a great folder here and there, if I think it's artform fits the bill. This one certainly does, at least in MY eyes.

This Laurent Doussot "Sweep" is the chapter page opener for "State of the Art", one of the three chapters in "Knives 2012" and actually appears twice in the book. And, of course, it's a COOP IMAGE!!

I'm getting into folders too, Bob:thumbup:.
The more I become familiar with the mechanism and the limitations it imposes, the more fascinated I become with the challenges behind producing a unique design.
There is much to learn of folding knives, and perhaps my vocation as bicycle mechanic leads me on with a desire to understand more completely how they work. The Art aspect, well I believe there is something to be said for the Art of design!
Billions of Artists have painted zillions of paintings on the exact same type of essentially 2D surface. There is still much to be done in the folding knife medium. I have a feeling that we're on our way, and that we'll be on to the next level very soon.

I had not planned on adding anything to this thread, but this Doussot folder just arrived and it's the first time I've held it. It is a substantial feeling piece, and the fit is so precise. The finish is outstanding, and the colors really do pop out at you, just as in the image. Everything one could expect in an artform, and you get a knife along with it!

Thanks to Laurent Doussot!

Best,

Bob Betzner

Good for you, Bob. I remember being equally impressed myself.

Form, color, depth and substance. Very different and quite spectacular! Love this one. Congratulations, Bob!

And here are the other pages of "Knives 2012" including the chapter page, quite a display piece, actually.

That is a fine looking knife Bob, congratulations. I can understand why you would want to add this to your collection, a real beauty.
