Lava owners

Awesome knife, probably the best ergonomics out of all the spyderco knives. It feels really good in your hand.

The only drawback is that the knife is heavy for its size. It's the only reason why I do not EDC this knife. If it had g-10 or FRN handles this would be my favorite knife from spyderco by far.

I love the way the blade does more than it should. Thus the term "Little big knife" i guess. The Ergonomics puts a big chunk of it into your hand then makes an incredible lockup with your index and thumb. The only drawback for me is that the spring is very strong for that small lock release.

This thread needs pics.

Sweet knife.

I like it. Wonderfully comfortable and secure handle design, and the spey blade, while not good for anything needing a point, is great for push and pull cutting. (Address that by pairing it with a peanut or other similar traditional slipjoint.) Feels a lot bigger than it is thanks to that handle.

One of my dream Spydies is the lava handle with a cricket/dodoesque reverse S blade.

bummer on the weight. If they make it in G10 or FRN handle It would have been my EDC.

My two basic problems with the Lava are the size of my hands and the amount of cutting edge for the amount of weight. When I grab the Lava, my ring finger slides up against my middle finger, making them feel crowded. Not surprising considering the Military is a perfect fit for my hands. But the FRN Dragonfly weighs half as much and has a quarter inch more cutting edge (and a point as well) and feels better in hand to me.

A couple of craptastic photos. One of these days I've got to build a lightbox so I can take better pictures at night.

In the design phase of the Lava, was there any consideration for self defense in areas with blade length restrictions? It almost has the look of a small, folding push dagger.

cool looking knife but no visible screws or rivets. how does the knife work compared to the others?

Yes, Chad designed it with self-defense in mind. The grip is very secure, even in my oversized hands, despite the smooth stainless handles.

Pinned construction is typical of stainless Spydies. The final finish blends the steel pins into the steel handles so well they are very hard to see, even if you know exactly where to look. Mine is quite smooth and an absolute tank of a knife for its size.
