lawn mower blades

any one know what steel lawn mower blades are made of?

most of it is no good for knives, it's low enough in carbon so the heat treaters can't mess it up, they don't want them to brake if striking a rock or something hard..if you want good cheap stuff get leaf springs from a junk yard.

Thanks for the reply thought i'd see since I ended up with a extra blade this morning from turning 2 bad mowers into 1 good mower and since i'm out of steel till after christmas (Santa needs the money for stuff) thought i might be able to use it.

I read that the older ones were more likely to high carbon steel. I have some laying around that could very well be "older" but I haven't tested them.

I don't see why not Mace. you can always weld an edge on if to soft..

Mike a known steel will save you some time and head aches
