Well fellas ,after some blood, sweat lots of tears and more cussing..my first two projects are finished. At least as finished as i can get them. If I knew how to post the picture of them i would. As long as everyone promised not to laugh..at least not where i could hear them. I already have number three profiled, tang tapered and the beginnings of bevels..here goes nothing!

Where do i foreward them to? Is there someone (a moderator) who will post them if i send them?

You'll need to get an image host and there are a few free ones but sorry I can't tell you where to look. I use my own web page and sometimes I'm not very succesful doing that.

Send them to me if you would like. I will put them up for you. I can resize if needed. Just use my email under my profile. I can't seem to finish a knife to show, so if I can help by showing someone else stuff it is the least that I can do.

errrrr....sorry about that. I will try again.

The top knife was especially challenging since i had to silver braze a tang extension on it..it is veyry basic and i know a bit rough ..but it was my first try. The bottom knife is made from 01 and edge quenched..black linen micarta handles, brass pins, and as complete as i can get it without buffing. These knives are by no means perfect, far from it in fact. but they are mine and im proud of them. That said, i would be grateful for any who see ways i can improve my next knives. Criticism isnt always nice but you never get better unless youre willing to hear it. So let me have it guys just dont be too harsh . I might cry. Thanks mark for posting them for me.

I'm no expert but I think they look great for the first two. My first two are crap, not that it matters it's no good steel apparently. Sorry not more helpful than that

Luke, compared to my first two those are mastersmith quality! I cant' realy see the second one real good on this 'puter, but the basic desighn looks sound on both.

Looks like you've got the basics, now just keep makeing knives, they will get easier and better.;)

Welcome to the struggle, brother-cutler!:D

This looks like a good start for your knifemaking journey.
Brazing a tang extension on one's first knife is quite a big step. I wouldn't have dared try something that ambitious on my first ten, much less my first one. Kudos!

The knives look great for first efforts, BTW.

All the best,
Mike U.

YOU WILL NOT BE CANED! Pretty good for firsts, seriously! And you deserve a lot of credit for hard work, too! 'Nother thing, you are sticking with it, going to make more and get better and better.

Better than mine also, but I have to agree that there is nothing as satisfying as making your own;)

The lawnmower blade was a challenge. I only had a makeshift coal forge for heating so when it was non magnetic,i quenched it in a bucket of old motor oil i had heated up on my barbq pit. I had planned to temper it at 400 for two hours three times but my toaster(tempering) oven only got up to 375 so i did it at 375. When all was said and done (taking off the scale took forever)it passed the brass rod test, meaning the egde flexed but went back to shape. So i guess(no expert mind you.) it came out ok. Wish i had straightened my piece of lawnmower blade with a torch or something..but you know what they say about hindsight. Its a great cutter. I skinned a wild hog with it and it will still shave hair...
