Where can one purchase an authentic Middle Eastern knife, such as you see in the movie LAWRENCE OF ARABIA? I'm not looking for a Chinese stamped copy, but a handmade real knife from some place like Yemen. Oh, also are there any books that talk about knives from the Middle East?

I don't remember the movie well enough. Are you looking for something like this?

jambiya.jpg

It is called a Jambiya in Saudi Arabia. A friend of mine in the Air Force bought this one for me while over there during Desert Shield.

I'm afraid I don't know where to get them in the US. It will probably be hard to find imports that aren't junk.

Good luck!

You might wish to try this URL:
http://forums.swordforum.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=13
It is "Sword Forum International, Antique Arms & Armour, Islamic Sword Forum." The folks there are very helpful, but you will need to register with your full name, not a pseudonym, and the Administrators and Moderators over there tend to be rather stricter than here in BladeForums as Adrian Ko, who owns the site has a very high opinion of his efforts. There is a great deal of knowledge residing among its members, however, and those who frequent the Islamic Sword Forum should be able to put you intouch with someone who can sell you an appropriate jambiya at a reasonable price.

Hi,

Great advice all the way around:). I would add www.nwknives.com , They've had quite a few nice Middle Eastern blade's as of late. They have'nt updated their OnLine catalog in a while, but if you e-mail, or call them they will help you out nicely.

You might also check Ebay, but you better have a good uderstanding of what you're looking for, as the stuff there range's from junk, to very nice.

HTH:D:).
