I wish to own a balisong and make this interesting hobby one of my own. I was wondering if i would run into any trouble ordering a balisong online and getting it shipped to where I live, Toronto, Ontario Canada. If any collectors know about the laws in this area, could they please let me know. Thanks.

Blackout, welcome to the forums! I'm not positive, but I think that they are illegal throughout Canada. I know there was a dealer from Canada that was looking to get someone to ship him balisongs from the US for his store. That was a while ago. I would assume that you'd be in the same boat that americans are as far as buying switchblades from over seas. That is, you could probably find somebody to sell and ship it to you, but you run the risk of it being seized by customs. Like I said, I'm not quite sure if they really are illegal all over Canada. But that's about the best I can do for you. I'm sure that there's a lot of other people here that can provide you with some better info. Good luck!

Yep, they're illegal to import them there. Too bad.

Doesn't mean you can't get them though...

Don't forget that if you order one of Darrel Ralph's Gemini Custom Balisongs, they can be disassembled. I'm sure that Kevin at The Edge Equipment, Darrel's dealer, would have no problem sending your Gemini to you in two perfectly legal packages, one with the blade and one with the two handles, the latch, and the rest of the "machine parts." You can assemble it yourself in minutes with common hand tools.

Similarly, many dealers such as Knifezilla and onestopknifeshop.com have been known to ship balisongs in pieces. Assembly requires only a common hammer and a hard surface to pound against.

Thanks guys for the promt replies, the feedback was much appreciated! I'll think I'll try getting them in seperate legal packages. Thanks again.

Was looking through knifezilla. Great amount of selection there. What would you guys recomend for a firt time user looking to get into the "sport" i guess. I want to get something descent, but not to high end since i don't want to just jump into it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
