I could not resist trying to get a better and obviously permanent look at the "strata" of the green linen slabs on my CGFBM. I don't know if anyone else notices this but the linen and G10 slabs receive a different "raptor" pattern on the fusion slabs. Linen and G10 are more wavy, "S" shaped grooves where the canvas are more angular (at least in the examples I have seen). In any case, I didn't feel the pattern showed the green linen as well as I would like and wanted to go with a retro look. I wanted to see how the hand shaped slabs would feel too.

Here are the results! I am VERY pleased with the slabs but I am not quite done yet. I am still going to do a little more sanding to finish out the areas around the tubes. To shake off the dust and to darken them after sanding I just applied olive oil which was handy. I will add clean/raw micarta pics if anyone wants to see that.

That's beautiful Dunner! Knice work.
I had to shape my BATACLE slabs, and was very happy with the results as well. Not a very good pic from not a very good camera.:o

Great work on your part as well Mymindisamob . It's suprising how good the micarta feels without the contours. I like how you worked around the tubes and that's the kind of thing I am after. The machined texture is gone but you kept a nice contour in there and it looks great. I think that treatment would feel great on my Fat Badger!

Dunner, MMIAM ... Those are some good lookin' smooth slabs! I Like 'em...

That certainly does expose a more colorful and stratafied view of the Micarta. How did you do the sanding? Belt sander? Sponge blocks? What grits were used? As you can tell this interests me as I have decided to alter some of my EDC handles.

MMIAM - I wondered what it would take for me to warm up to my BATAC. I believe you have shown me! Nice work, Bill

I did all my removal work by hand with coarse emery cloth. I didn't want to risk burning through even a single layer of micarta so I was willing to take it slow. I ran over it real quick just to knock down some of the grit markings with a fine emery cloth I haven't even really finish that up yet. Didn't take too long at all.

Thanks for the kind words. I was a little dissappointed at how my hand and the BATACLE fit together, since I fell in love with the TAC slabs on the Satin Jacks. It took a little nerve a more than a little rum to finally get down to it. I used an Orbital Disc sander with 150 grit on it. I finished off the edges with the little 3M drill attachments like Tyrkon Lawson uses. Like Dunner, I use Emory Cloth, or wet/dry sand paper to fine tune.

I like it  Looks great! I may try this on my FFBM.

Very cool, Dunner. I'm thinking that may happen to one of my blades very, very soon! Emery cloth? Like scotchbrite??

That looks awesome!!!

I'll be doing this on some of my canvas slabbed blades. :D
