Good Day,
Just received a Strider PT from Plaza Cutlery and got a Great Deal from some Great Folks.
I haven't done any cutting tests with it yet, but thought I'd throw out some initial impressions.
Pro's:
1 - It is a very ergonomic little knife. (I have medium sized hands)
2 - The Choil on the blade is actually comfortable, and I can tell the choil will be used in most if not all my cutting tasks.
3 - Although, the entire blade was bead blasted, the opening and closing is just as smooth as the first Small Seb I had.
4 - Lock up is just as tight as my Sebs, and at a about 1/3 of the base of the blade.
5 - 4 Frame Pins (inculding pivot).
6 - Razor sharp out of the bag.
7 - Stamp is perfect.
Cons:
1 - Out of the bag there was a small stain/discoloration around one of the frame screws - barely noticable, but still there.
2 - Blade grind is noticibly different on either side of the blade, and from tip to base on one side - not drastic enough to freak me out, or a big deal, since I take the factory edge off most keepers anyway.
3 - The clip had a couple of small nicks in it out of the bag (again barely noticable, about the size of a point tip on a ballpoint pen).
4 - The Ti scale and clip are already showing minor scratches after a day of carry, and It took my Sebs at least a week of banging up against my keys to show any.
5- Not as discreet for clip carry as a Seb. Rides about a half inch higer out of the pocket, and the clip is wider. In an office environment, could draw a look a little quicker.
6 - If you like your folders to have ergos which would allow them to be used potentialy as a baton (Blade closed) in a SD sitation, this would be a little uncomfortable.
Overall first imprsesions -
I'm glad I chose the PT, and it will be EDC, although it won't replace my Regular Seb for clip carry.
Feels great in my hand, when opened it is actually more ergonomic to me than my Regular Seb, but not more than a small Classic.
Since, I'm a whittler, I love the blade choil on this for precice cutting, but I am considering rounding the spine (a little easier on the thumb)
Prior to purchase, I was prepped for the F&F issues, and I am thankful I went into it wide eyes open. If I were a Collector, and not the user that I am, they would have been an issue.
If you'd like to have some pic comparisons between the Strider and a large Reg Seb, feel free to email me, and I will gladly send them your way.
Sorry, no pics with a small Seb, but I believe others have supplied those already anyway.
