The weather here in coastal Georgia (smack between Savannah and Jacksonville, Fla.) is beautiful; dodged another bullet with "Hannah" :) and lookin' forward to sweatin' it with "Ike."

Well, as I was saying the weather is nice, so I was enjoying the nice cooler temps. Still humid as a wet rag though. `Thought I'd fire up the angle grinder and cut out some blanks.

I wear glasses any way and didn't want to get too hot so didn't put on the saftey glasses; they were dirty and a pain in the ass to boot.

So I thought untill a wee sliver bounced off my cheek, richocheted off the inside left lens and into my eye where it bounce out to God knows where. He does look out for idiots, Huh?:o

No damage (thank you Jesus). I cleaned my eye, the safety glasses and finished cutting out the blanks. Lazy is dumb!

Thanks for lettin' me rag on myself.

My dad had a similar event happen around 1955. A cold chisel chipped and a sliver about the size of a pin head shot under his glasses and stuck in the white of his eye ! OUCH !! My mom removed it with a magnet! :)

Glad you're OK...the eye is the fastest healing organ in the body.

Yikes.
I've always worn safety glasses or goggles when I mow mainly because I can't stand the feeling of little bits of dust or grass bits in my eyes. One day I was mowing the backyard and the mower kicked up something rather hard (can't remember what at the moment) and hit me square on the right lens. Thanks to those glasses my eye was spared a nasty impact (and my eyes have suffered enough). I love those things now.

I run chainsaw high up in trees and safety goggles in addition to my helmet mesh visor are critical to have!

Thanks for the reminder. I often think my eyeglasses will be sufficient protection when I'm running power tools that are capable of spewing bits of material.

I've finally trained myself to wear my seatbelt for even the shortest, most routine trips around town. I've got to use the same diligence to learn to never switch on a power tool before donning the safety glasses or face shield.

the safety glasses warning isnt just there for legal.

its always better to be safe when it comes to your eyes, because they are our main sensory organ, even though they suck compared to other animals.

I appreciate that, JMH. I must admit, the magnet idea did run across my mind.

The eye might be one of the quickest healing, but its also one of the most sensitive.

My dad's an ophthalmologist and all the time I hear about how he treats patients that get shards of metal in their eye from not wearing glasses. Can cause some very nasty scarring and blindness even with tiny pieces.
I've never been allowed to own a BB-gun since he always gets kids coming in that have had a BB ricochet off something and into their eye.

Glad to hear you're ok.

You'll put your eye out ,kid!

I may be a dork, but after my lasik I wear safety glasses for everything. I even went out and bought a nice(ish) pair of safety sunglasses for both work and play. Glad to hear you had a positive outcome!

thanks, Shore. I appreciate all the well wishing I've been getting from all the board members.
