So today my fiancé and I decided to hit the water for a nice leisurely paddle. It was clear skies with a nice occasional breeze that almost made you forget all about the oppressive heat. There's nothin quite like the solitude and the closeness to nature that accompanies these back water river runs.

We started in a lake and headed upstream.

I tend to over pack however today I made a grave error and left a dry bag loaded with gear at home near the door.

I managed to make it out the door with my 24, a sven saw, and another dry bag with a (almost) complete medical bag in it.
While we were out, I came across some carnivorous plants.
I believe this is called Emeralds Envy if my memory serves me.

A closer look.

And then something else, I think it is a form of waterwheel or king sundew.

Overall today was a good day and even though I wore spf50 sunblock, I'll wear this sunburn as a badge of honor (wore off due to, at times violent sweating, and deliberate tipping of kayaks ).

I've heard a day spent paddling isn't subtracted from your life. Fun times right there. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful pics! I like the plant too. You guys see any wildlife?

Its my pleasure to share.

Yeah there were turtles galore (I wasn't quick enough with my phone to snap the photos) ranging from painters to boxers and one snapper. They all pull up on rotted logs and sun bath. The larger ones were much braver than the little guys, and weren't really bothered by our presence.
We did come across one Eastern Fence Lizard also, normally not that interesting but over the years their population seems to have taken a dramatic decline, gone are the days where a few hours spent in the woods with quick hands amounted to a terrium full.
