These don't come up too often but when they do, they attract high bids. Last three I've seen have topped five bills. Anyone here nab it?

I bought this one the LB-4 marked box with LB-4 marked Schrade warranty replacement card and horizontal sheath, from an individual about two years ago and felt sheepish about what I paid.:o Feel OK about it now though. :) Only flaw was that he filled out the card. He should have "lost" it, and got the replacement.

Not considering selling, but wonder what price these "Missing UH" knives might bring... 2, 10, and 20 years from now.

Not me! That's to rich for me, for now! Still have other models to add before the 3rd gen style series. I'm sure the time will come around at one point though.

Hal, i think the best way to get one of these is to find it in a listing that goes something like "Dad's old Shrade ----" along with a crappy, out of focus pic., or "lot of 20 older knives ----". i always check out those looking for this gem.

I am very interested in what Schrades in general will sell for; I haven't been around the scene long but I will pose another question: As the supply dries up (which appears to be happening), will buyers lose interest and move on to other pursuits? I have heard old timers say that collecting is a fickle thing and trends and markets can go way up and way down, not necessarily very predictably.

I have a really nice old Savage 303 and it seems that what it is worth is what someone is willing to give and what is collectable which as you have said changes with the weather

Didn't they make around 5000 of these beauties? Seems to me a great example of the power of hype and myth. I want one to complete my LB series collection too but for over 5 bills? :jerkit: Not worth it. Wait and see these might become less rare than we thought if the bottom does fall out of the high-end Schrade collector market. Time will tell. Just my opinion. -Dave

Howdy all, first post here. I was rummaging through the gun safe yesterday and came across an old Schrade LB4 that's been in there as long as I have had the safe. Don't even remember where it came from, possibly my grandad, but it's NIB, never carried, used or even sharpened. No card in the box just the knife, sheath and plastic sleeve for the knife itself.

Beautiful piece of work. Are the grips bone or stag? Any other history/background would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well done on finding the LB4! The handles are actually a Polymer called Delrin, a hard unbreakable material, although it can split and has done on many center pins of knives whoever made them. Somewhat hard to imagine that the knife commands the sort of money it does with basically plastic handles.

take a look at the link below to more info about the third generation knives including the LB-4.

Thanks Rusty1. Good looking plastic for sure. The way it's colored over the years it really looks like stag. Never looked at pocket knives as much more than one of lifes necessities before but after seeing the vaule and rarity of this one I just went out to the shop and found 3 more Schrades. An 863, Old Timer that looks like 3307 and a stainless 66825 in a couple of different drawers, all used but in very good condition.

Guess I'll never look at pocket knives in the same light again. Gonna go back out to the shop and check other drawers because I know there are some others out there.

Let us know what you find, pic's too! By the way the coloring on the Delrin handles came that way from the factory. I'll have to see if I can find the description of the process.

Nice find Tass, you couldn't have picked a better one to put away! You rarely see them in the original boxes:thumbup::thumbup:

That Old Timer is likely stamped 33OT, one side of the "T" might be rubbed off.

You're probably right ea42 these eyes are getting old. Here are some pics of what I was able to come up with in the shop:
