me I have a question. what is the difference between the LB 7 and the LB 8? is it just the wood versus bone handle? or is the blade different. Also the LB 7 on its blade had at the beginning just schrade usa and then went to Uncle Henry did this take place with the LB 8 also and did it have serial numbers like the
LB 7?

I believe that for the most part, the LB8 was the LB7 with staglon handles, and an LB8 tang stamp. I can't answer your question about the signature on the stamp, but I do know that some of the early LB8's did have serial numbers like the LB7's. I just don't know if they had there own series of numbers, or just taken from the LB7 serial number list.

in doing checking provided by the knowledgeable people here i have found that the LB 7 fist appeared on the price lists in 1978 and was first produced in 1977 (http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/). the whole range of LB's didn't find their way to the price lists til 1980. thank you so much for your reply. And thanks to Codger for his great knowledge where ever he is.

Occasionally, anyway.

Not all LB-8's have the LB-8 tang stamp. Some early ones used the LB-7 blades. The Staglon covers is what makes it an LB-8 (in my opinion). Though it is nice to have one marked each way. And don't forget the Dixie Editions wherein the LB-8 made it's debut. The blade etches were't super fancy, but the gift boxed sets are real finds these days. We still don't have a complete / confirmed list of the variants in that set. No one that I am aware of has a complete set of all of the States issues.

Always great to see the old Codger poke in here.
Hope all is well.

I began converting my "new" spare bedroom into my official mancave this week. Dang, I sure have missed my Schrades! Unpacking them again after six months is like Christmas all over again!
