this post in the info sticky:http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=325147&highlight=LB7 seems incorrect. LB7s first out in '78 4 pin, serialized until '89; then in '91 3 pin; then '92 and on, bolster pin not visible. i have a 3 pin with bolster #s (as do 1000s of others), but by this timetable it shouldn't.
also, i have seen some LB7s with "uncle henry" in script on tang above SCHRADE+, and the kick is different. what is the time period for these ?
any help clearing up these 2 questions will be much appreciated. i have 2 so far (3 and 4 pin, both with #s) and would like to get more. i like this knife. roland

the full tang stamp of 2nd question above: UNCLE HENRY (in script)/SCHRADE+/LB7 U.S.A. my older 3 pin is: SCHRADE+/U.S.A. LB7
note reversal of last line. am i correct in thinking the knife stamped 3 line is post 2004 closing even though bolster pin is showing ? roland

and a sheath question too: the older LB7 sheaths are described as "triangular". does this mean that the base of the sheath is not a straight line, but curved ? were these sheaths black with the belt loop sewn on flat instead of looping the top end back ? thanks again, roland

ellbeesebens are a mystery unto their own. One cannot set absolute timelines of when things changed.

First, they were serialized and had the four pins in the covers. Then they went to three pins. Then a problem arose on the smooth Delrin knives (Scrimshaws and smooth Delrin SFOs) and those went back to four pins while the "winewood" Fibron wood handles continued with three. The UH signature was added around number X******. Then serializing stopped around #BB******. A few knives have been seen with SCHRADE tangstamps (no "+"), but they were also stainless. And the stamps changed from U.S.A. LB7 to LB7 U.S.A. at about that same time, but not consistantly.

Rather than trying to acquire one from each year as might be done with Bucks, try to get one of each tang stamp variation!:D

well Codger, i got my third LB7 today, a 3 pin, bolster pin showing SCHRADE+/U.S.A. LB7, with it's org. sheath, black with curved bottom. i think that makes it one of the older 3 pins ? i appreciate the collection advice; i may end up with all tang variations. i can't seem to stay away from an LB7 in near perfect (or better) condition. they are such a solid functional knife, and today's was only $16.49. what a bargain. i'm going to eventually start giving some of these to friends. there are very few Schrades around, at least my part of B.C., so i want to spread them around a little. in fact i have an up coming wedding to attend, i've known the bride since her birth, and my gift to each will be a knife from my collection. hopefully the gift won't outlast the marriage.
new question: are USA LB7s still being made since the closure of the real Schrade ? as well, any info on sheath dates ? roland

I posted a rant about Schrade accessory sheaths a while back if you can find it with a search. Otherwise, just watch eBay for new LB7s with boxes and sheaths to get an idea. The sheaths did vary with time. And with suppliers.

exactly 1 month ago i won an LB7 on ebay for a v. reasonable $12.50. the seller did not usually have knives. this one she found by the side of the road in some remote location more than 25 years ago, and had stored it in a drawer since. well it arrived and check out the pics. a basically unused 4 pin LB7, may have been lightly sharpened. factory buff marks are visible on the blade.
serial # on the bolster: 210012. from a post by Codger (i think), LB7s came out in 1977, serial #s 1 to 17,693; 1978 #s 17694 to 268,071; and so on. so this is a second year of production, 1978 ! and what a number: split it in the middle, look right or left, both say 012 ! neat; i'm happy roland ( p.s. came with a nice leather sheath, with BUCK on the front and 110 on back, so now i have a sheath for my 1980 110)

Wow Roland, that's a NICE find!
