Got this one in the mail this morning from Raghorn wanting me to install a gold anodized low rider pocket clip for tip up right hand carry on his original condition Schrade LB7 with a slightly off center blade when closed. No serial number on this one so I guess its a newer model if I recall correctly.

Almost seems a shame to touch it really seeing the condition its in but as a good friend of mine says all the time. Nothing is sacred! This one should make all the BRL loyal smile. :p

Ok Mike. This is about as close as I have gotten them on the Bucks. Purely functional and ready to work. On these heavier knives I thread the screws all way through so they go in and bottom out to seat the full length of 1/4" each for plenty of grip. These handles offer plenty to thread into. I don't know how you guys carry these all day though but I know of a lot of you do it. This LB7 is a full 8 ounces of knife.

Anyway she is done. Thanks.

nice work STR....
I still have an LB7 in my foot locker.....1st "quality" folder I bought....back when i was in high school .... how time flies.... :)
I agree that's a heavy folder to carry clipped....great job however....
Would you know what steel the LB7's blade is:confused:
IIRC, the box says Schrade+ steel or something

I have been told the Schrade + steel is the same steel Buck used for so many years that I've just accepted that it is in fact 420HC. I don't recall where I heard this last but it comes up now and then. Perhaps A.G. or one of the other folks more in the know about that could add more for us. Not sure.

I have one of these LB7 models myself that my mother and father bought for me back in the 80s as a birthday gift. Its still in excellent shape (sheath too!) and although I have used it I can't say its ever needed to have anything done to the original factory edge. Mine has an early serial number with just the few digits with a letter in front stamped on one bolster but I can't recall the number without having to dig it out.

Honestly I liked these LB7 models by Schrade just a little better than the Buck 110s I had at the same time but I could never tell you why. I liked the Buck Esquire much better than the LB5 by Schrade though. My old Esquire by Buck with the Micarta inserts made when I was a lot younger is one from when Buck was still using 440C for blade steel.

thanx for the reply Steve..... I believe one of the reasons i bought an LB7 back then was a "lifetime replacement" warranty / friend had one and told me about it.... I also think it was a little less cash than a Buck 110 back then....

Glad you are happy. It went out in the mail to you yesterday but our Post Office closes at noon here on Saturdays and it was after noon when I dropped it off so I doubt it will actually leave until Monday. Anyway, thanks and look for it soon.

Glad you like it. Those knives are so heavy the clips are usually bigger also so I was hoping you wouldn't mind that. I also sink those screws all the way in for added retention.

Don't let it bite you.
Enjoy.
