An associate of mine reports that LB-7's are being made in China in large quantaties has anyone seen then in the market place and if so what price?

MSRP is $36.95 ---------- eBay price $29.95
Ebay search. Yes, they are being repro'd in China, and are selling for about the same price as original Ellenville N.Y. LB7's NIB.

You can get them from bladematrix or eknifeworks for what looks like more standard discount pricing. THose high ebay prices must be shady dealers, not Taylor overpricing them. Of course, until I try one myself they might still be overpriced. :)

I e-mailed Taylor before about stuff, and received answers in some form. But last time I asked what steel they used for the new knives and got no reply. I was hoping they used 440c (or whatever Chinese replacement), which seems decent on other Taylor knives, but now it's a mystery.

The response I got to my inquiry was that they are all 440C.

Good. So far all of the 440c knives I have used from China (Some of them Taylor) actually hold up OK for $20 or less.

I saw a picture of the Chinese LB7, and the wood looked a little crummy. Large grain. I have 2 "real" LB7's and the wood is very nice looking. I suppose I should try one though. It's not like it would be the first $20 I took a chance with.
