I found a thread asking this question from back in 2009 but it never really got answered. Instead of reviving a 15 year old thread, I started a new one. . . apologies in advance if that's a faux pas. Anyway, the pic shows 4 of my LB7's. Top one is a relatively early serial number 4-pin (7289320). 2nd one is a relatively late serial numbered 4-pin (G5060). 3rd is a serialized 3-pin (AW25797). Bottom is an unserialized 3-pin (Schrade+ USA). I also have an unserialized 3-pin with the pivot pin in the original location (not in the family photo). My question is about the change in lockbar pivot location. Any ideas when and/or why?

AW25797 is also the earliest LB7 I have with the Uncle Henry script in the tang stamp. E75034 is an earlier 4-pin without the Uncle Henry script. I read somewhere that they added the script at the same time they stopped serializing but AW25797 seems to refute that. Any info on when they started adding the Uncle Henry script to the tang stamp?

My entire LB7 stable:

47917 4-pin, no script
580985 4-pin, no script
728932 4-pin, no script
E75034, 4-pin, no script
G5060 4-pin, no script
AW25797 3-pin, script
3-pin, no serial, script
3-pin, no serial, script

A good basis for a research project. I'd start with a survey of the scrimshaws since they are easily dated. Save photos from eBay and elsewhere online.

They changed all LB7 pattern cover pins from 4 to 3. Then noted warping on smooth Delrin covers with 3 pins and returned them to 4. lockbars changed on all at the same time too.

The change in pin location started happening in 1994 on the flyers. 1994-050 Sporting Dogs Labrador Retriever is the earliest flyer showing a photographed knife built with the later pin placement. https://collectors-of-schrades-r.us/FLYERS/1990s/pages/SC94-050.htm

The 1994 Scrimshaw flyer still showed the earlier placement. https://collectors-of-schrades-r.us/scrims/pages/sc1994-1.htm

Bottom-line is mid-1990's, maybe 1994 to 1996. Some variants may have changed before others to use up older parts etc.

Thank you Codger and bladecollectorr. I'm a relatively new to the collecting game (maybe 2 years) and trying to learn the ropes. I have accumulated several Schrades and I think those flyers will be very handy. In addition to the (7) LB7's listed above, I have accumulated some other Schrades:

227UH Schrade+ USA
227UH Schrade USA
227UH "arched" Schrade (bought before I figured some things out)
7OT Schrade USA
6OT Schrade+ USA
(2) H-15 Schrade-Waldens
138L Bowie Hunter Schrade-Walden

Several Bucks, Queens, Westerns, Craftsman, OTC's, Imperials, Sharp USA and a couple of Opinels!

I didn't realize how addicting this hobby could be. . . kinda like antique and classic cars.
