Greetings, all! Found what I considered to be an interesting piece at a local flea market. It is an LB7 scrimshaw "Eagle has Landed" 20th anniversary of the 1st Apollo moon landing. It appears to have never been used, definitely has never been touched to a stone. It is in a counter-top display with the clear plastic top, includes sheath with the Apollo spacecraft etched in white on the flap. Serial number in the 5000 range. (If I would just have thought to take a pic with the cellphone camera, I could have saved a lot of typing...)
Any opinions as to what a fair asking price would be for a knife like this?

Happy 4th to all!

Tom

just let us know where and we shall go look and let you know.
just kidding great find! go get whatever the cost!

Happens to be in Evansville, Indiana. They're asking $90.00, but I bet they'll deal a little...Never hurts to try!

I'd definitely haggle some, price seems kinda high IMO.

I think Eric is right. Most of these limited editions were produced up to 6,000 pieces, though a few were considerably less. I haven't seen one sell recently, but I would think that a price more around $60-75 would be fair. However, it really depends on how badly you want it, and it's actual condition and completedness. Is the plastic cover scratched or cracked? Are the papers there? Does it still have the white slipcover? These details are important to some collectors and impossible to determine without a close coon-finger and chicken-eye. I would mentally knock $ off my offer for every component missing or damaged.

The event itself occured on July 20, 1969, so the 20th anniversary was July 1989, 21 years ago.

Happy 4th to all.
I just looked out on the back deck where our big old cat has decided to sleep in the shade and enjoy the very hot, sunny day. Smart cat.
Hope all have a great day and remember what the celebrations are all for.

Thanks, Codger, great info! Larry great pic of that ad! Thought the price was just a bit high- plastic cover was in great shape, no papers unless they were underneath, and no slipcover. Got some ammo now for dealing them down!
Codger, I remember the actual event very well. Was 14 in 1969 - watched it on TV.
Found some of this info at Worthpoint.com after I started this thread - but that info was based on auctions from you-know-where.
Thanks again all & Happy 4th!
