by everything i mean to commemorate. here is my newest LB7, $20 with sheath, all unused, ebay, what a deal ! IMHO the LB7 wins the "best overall" category for production knives of the last 100 years. and this one is a beauty: "If You Love Your Freedom ---" with blade etch "Limited Edition" and Army insignia, serial# 0429; of about 880.
i know there is an older post about this knife, but it's not often seen, so it might be new to some of the newer members. and, it's a beautiful; knife and i'm excited, esp. at $20. i can't understand why people pass these up, a perfect USA knife !
i think there are 3 others: Navy, Airforce, Marines ?? and anybody know year of production ? roland

Good catch. If I had seen it I would have been bidding with you then neither one of us would have gotten a good deal. Being retired Army, that's the only one I would have gone for.

Great deal:thumbup:! I visited with some folks at the big arms show in Tulsa OK. 2 wks ago and they made the comment about the LB7, OT6@7 that they basically give them away? could this be because of the shear #'s of the knife;) or the other thing that comes to mind is you used to see lots of leather stapped on belts this I do not see anymore:mad:Think it is the PC thing? I find more of these knives by far than any others.:D

Roland,
I can't tell you what year they were issued, but there were 800 sets issued. From what I understand, a set included knives commemorating the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force. It also included a silver coin to accompany each knife. I was lucky enough to win the 4 knives (4 separate auctions) from one guy back in January. I think I had to give about $50 for one, the rest I got for between $25 and $35 each. They all had matching numbers on the bolsters. I was lucky enough the guy had the coins to go with them and sold them to me for a reasonable price. It's a really nice set.

Dave, i saw your earlier thread when you only had one of these.
in another thread Tennknifeman was explaining how Schrade messed up it's potential collectors' market by having limited editions in big runs like 12,000.
well here is a limited run similar in number to what other other manufacturers have done, and yet still often sells at, or below, initial retail. AND, it's a good knife, "Hall of Famer" ! but IMHO, Schrade USA, is beginning a long lasting "upswing", partly because the knives are so well made that most still function well at middle age and old age. and also partly fueled by the generosity of members here in educating others about Schrade. roland

Yeah, back when I posted about having one, I had just bought the US Army one. Shortly after, I found a Navy one, but kept looking for the other two. When I ran across the opportunity to gather a complete set of matching serial numbered knives, I jumped at it. So now I have dupes of 2 that I will probably look to offload sometime.

I saw that thread with his comments, and they seemed pretty valid to me. That being said, I would tend to agree with you on the apparent trend of the Schrades beginning to increase in value, and the great quality. They are great knives, and I am particularly partial to the LB7s for some reason. Maybe it's because of all the variants available. It just begs you to try to collect as many as you can.:D

I've had an lb7 continually since 1974. i love the way it feels in my back pocket next to my billfold. A buck is just too small as is a case. Sure wish I had my original but it was lost and replaced by Schrade as the guarantee went back then. Shoot wish i had the replacement.

Congrats on the win Roland, be careful though it is not an LB7 and is not marked + steel. Looks like one but there are differences.

I snagged a couple LB7 Scrims, or SC507/705 this weekend. I got the one with the Schrade factory on it for $50, and a lightly used Ducks Unlimited one for about $23. I also received one I won last week. A Harley Davidson LB7 with nickel silver bolsters and an LB7 sheath stamped Harley Davidson. Needs cleaned up from being in the sheath for years, but otherwise is like new, never sharpened, for $22. So deals are still out there!

Nice one Dave, awesome finds, would like to see the Schrade factory Scrim.

I am not sure why but the LB7 is one of the biggest bargain on ebay right now. Bought two this weekend between $22 and $27.

Yeah, I also got a NOS LB7 with all the paperwork in the white box for $26. Thought I had enough "regular" LB7s, but not one NIB, so I jumped at that price, and have one more.

Hey Rusty, you are correct. sometimes when i see a knife i like, i get all excited and stop thinking.
it's the large Camillus LB frame. same as the Green Bone I*XL shown in thread linked to above.
but interesting, seems few knew about these Schrade/Camillus/I*XL knives 'til recently.
and i'm just as happy, but should remember to think when viewing knives. roland
