Hi I have just discovered that my LB8 is not made any more. I went to google Schrade and found that I could not just buy another one. Im hoping someone would take the time to inform me as to what the steel is in the LB8 and also if all LB8's have the same steel. I have been looking for one for a year or so now. Am going to a knife show on march 30 and if I find one would also like to know what they are worth. Hope to get some feedback. Thanks for any info belle210.

The LB-8 was officially catalogued in 1982, but limited production actually began in 1978. “Schrade+” steel was actually a trademarked name used for at least two different stainless steel alloys. SCHRADE+ steel at that time was 440A. A running change was made to 420HC circa 2000. My records indicate that the LB-8 continued to be produced in limited quantities as late as 2002, so it is possible to acquire one with this newer stainless steel.

I don't delve into market values, but perhaps someone here can tell you what they recently paid for one.

I can't talk for sure about the steel on the LB8, although I'm certain at least the later ones were the "Schrade+" stainless like the LB7. As for value, I would recommend doing an advanced search on ebay. Click on the "completed auctions only" box. I see some have gone for as little as $30, and I've seen some go for over $100, depending on whether it's used or new in the box. I know a while back I ran across a hardware store that still had some of the USA LB8s. Retail was $59.95 and they wouldn't come off that a penny.

Thanks Codger_64 and DaveT63 now I have some confermed info to go to the knife show tomorrow. Boy would I like to find one in a hardware store for 60 bucks. thanks again belle210

Thanks again that does make sence if they needed blades before doing away with the LB8. My LB8 holds an edge better than any knife I'v ever had. Guess I'll continue my search being more informed. If I find anything interesting at the show I'll let you know. belle210

How long ago? Still think there are some left? Were they Brown Box, White Box, or Sharp Idea Box?

Probably close to a year ago now. Don't know if there are any left, but I can try to run past there and check sometime later today. To the best of my recollection, it would have been the Sharp Idea box. I don't remember seeing any brown or white boxes there.

Back from the knife show and did not find any large Schrade lockblades. A friend of mine did bring an old Schrade automatic and found out it was worth around 3 to 4 hundred. It was given to him, some guys step in all the s%&t.

Well, went back to the hardware store today, and they still had 5 USA LB8s NIB left at $59.95 retail. Based on where auction #320231490495 was when I left for the store, (somewhere north of $155), I felt it prudent to purchase all 5. Also picked up 5 125OTs NIB for $49.95. I will eventually get them posted on ebay, but as of yet, I've never sold anything there, and not in a hurry to go through the hassle to start. If we ever get the sell/trade thing going here, I may offer them up as trade bait instead of selling outright.

Nice. Some people do not believe it when I tell them the Schrades are still out there on store shelves, but that is where most of the Ebay knives come from. Not often, but they are still out there.

Well done Dave that's one heck of a haul, LB8's and 125's all in one go, Sweet.

I have a mint NIB LB8 in Stag I will part with very reasonably if you are interested.
