I know you can't assume with tang stamping on some Schrade knives, although, would it be to much to assume, that LB8s with the Uncle Henry tang stamp are earlier production models, than LB8s with Schrade + tang stamps.

...would it be to much to assume...

Interesting theory. Perhaps you should research it and see what the facts are regarding the stamps. Collect the knives, pictures of the knives, the boxes and inserts, and advertising illustrations to see if you can prove your theory.

I think if you were to assume anything, it should be that earlier LB8s will not have "Uncle Henry" on the tang. The earlier (late seventies) LB8 will simply have the "Schrade+ USA LB8."

The kind of The bolsters will also be a clue... The nickle colored bolsters go on the earlier models and the deep gold brass bolsters are the later ones... I don't know if that is a fact, it's just a way I sort them out.

It was something that never occured to me, that there would be different tang stamps, As I have only just started filling in the gaps, of my collection on the Uncle Henry range, I recently purchased an LB8, with Uncle Henry Tang, then today I noticed another LB8, with Schrade + tang, another variant to add to the collection, at some point.

Robert Clemente on page 12 of "Catalog History of Shrade Knives" states that on some older models, the Uncle Henry signature appears on the tang stamp.

Ive looked at the catalogs and style sheets from (81),82-85 and all are showing SCHRADE + over USA LB8 on the blades.
I'll keep looking for a UH sig on the blade and see if I can find a year.
Found an example in 86 with UH on the tang.

Thanks for the info guy's, it is most appreciated, There always seems to another angle on the story, of OT & UH collecting.
