Had an LB8 for some time now. Has or does anyone know of a way to get the musty smell out of leather and cardboard. The knife sat in its' box for about twenty years and smells musty. Thanks for you input as always.

Bright sunshine and circulating fresh air works miracles, BUT the bright sunshine will sunburn the sheath and it will turn a lot darker. A light coat of PURE neatsfoot on on a clean sheath would be advisable as well. Also Baking soda will deodorize the box to some extent, but I don't know if it would become a permanent part of the sheath or not. If so, the sheath is washable with mild soap ie. saddle soap and then dry completely , then the Neatsfoot application. Good luck.

Thanks Paul. The sheath is black and so far I just used a black shoe polish to get the musty film off it. I hope the shoe polish won't damage it. The sheath is in like new condition and stiff. Who carries the Neatsfoot?

If it's black then it has already been sealed and probably the oils in the polish will be sufficient, although another application in 30 days or so would be beneficial. Tandy/Leather Factory, or most feed stores that carry horse tack will also have PURE Neatsfoot oil.

If you will expose the sheath to moderate heat (under a light bulb for 30 minutes) it will speed up absorption of the polish, then re buff it when you take it out.
