LBJ's tired of his knife falling out of his pocket

LBJ wasn't ever shy about speaking plain...lol. I wonder what kind of knife he kept losing...

Nice to hear that voice again, real 'burr' to it:thumbup:

His knife? Why, must have been a Senator of course, lifelong profesional politician:D

L.B.J. gave away to White house visitors, a ton of Victorinox classic's, of all things. Blue with the White House seal on it.

Talk about your old rough edged big Texan man! :)

Yea, I am thinking either Texas Jack, Stockman, Sowbelly, Cattleman or perhaps even a Trapper pattern.

Thanks MNBLADE!

PS {where on earth did you find this old recording?

That's funny!

He says his money and knife fall out. I can understand a knife, but why would the President ever need to carry money?

I remember reading about another Senator, with a large family fortune behind him, who never carried money. When he wanted something, one of his aides had to pay for it. He never bothered to reimburse them, either.

LBJ wasn't like that.

LBJ wasn't like that.

This reminds me of similar stories of Francois Mitterand, former president of France. He too carried no money, nor wore a watch as minions were expected to take care of these matters. Such is executive arrogance...

LBJ's pockets must have been too shallow, and perhaps it was a large Congress as his pattern of choice:D

This all reminds me of a quote which, for the life of me, I cannot find despite many Google searches. I'll mangle it up, but something along the lines of:

A king or monarch of some sort arrives at a fancy dinner party with his body guards, and wearing his full royal regalia, but also wearing a knife on his hip. When asked why on earth he would need to carry a knife, he replied that one can never know when they may need a knife.

If and when I am able to find this quote (I think it was in a library book I read years ago), I'll come back and edit.

IIRC, LBJ won everlasting glory in Texas for bringing electricity to the rural areas in the 50's.

A man like that is going to have cash in his pockets because that's what a man from that time and place was expected to carry, whether he used it or not. Likewise with a knife.

That is a great story. My wife thinks I talk too gruff sometimes, and that is great stuff.
