This may be an old topic, but if not: What might be the preference between the Microtech LCC and the SOCOM or SOCOM Elite as a defensive thing?

Hi,

I'd say the Socom series, especially the Elite.
Reason is that there's a place where i can put my indexfinger, something i like very much.

The Lcc is an excellent knife, mine takes and holds a scary sharp edge but i'd like it to have a somewhat larger finger cut-out.

I really like my Elite tanto 2-tone, very sturdy, very sharp and very nice looking :)

The big problem with the LCC, in my opinion, is the lack of a guard..this would especially be a problem with wet hands.

The problems I have noticed with the LCC are that the knife is pretty heavy, and the handle tapers to a thinner profile towards the butt. This does not make for a secure feeling handle for me. Especially if it gets wet.

For defensive purposes, I'd go with the Socom Elite. As stated above, the additional relief for the index finger makes it more secure in the grip, IMO. This is no knock on the LCC, which is a beautiful knife.

LCC is an incredible knife, but for SD look else where

The Socom and the Socom E are great and are almost there when it comes to SD.

But the Amphibian is the ticket, hold one and you will understand

Maybe this isn't the reason why you're missing larger cut-out, but...

... I think LCC should be handeled like most of traditional Finnish/Swedish/Norwegian/whatever puukkos:

If you're going to hit (for example downwards) with it, place your thumb behind (around) the back of the handle.

If you're going to stab with it, put the back of the handle in your palm (yes, you must take the hold from (quite) back of it) and push.

I'm not sure how clear I made myself...
... but anyway I tried! ;) :)

Brian: I agree with your comments on the Amphibian. I have one and another on the way. It's a real winner IMHO. I'd have an auto as well if it was legal to carry in my jurisdiction.:)

tukhis!

You make perfectly sense, good thinking!
But i rather choose a knife that i don't have to cap (with my thumb) or slide down on the handle.
Theoretically that's why my "defense knife" is an Emerson [Super] Commander :)

But the Lcc still gets carried and used, just too excellent/pretty not to be carried...

I have to agree about the Amphibian. I have only owned my LCC DA for a little while, but before even aquiring that one, I held the Amphibian, and instantly knew why SO many people loved MT.

Hold one.....You'll understand.

(Amphibian is next on my list after the manual LCC comes in :) )
