i recently came upon a Samsung 32" 460series LCD tv by a stroke of luck. the tv speakers were good for about one week and today ive been hearing a bad echo/buzz. the volume is low/normal level and i have not blasted the tv volume or dropped or bumped the tv in any way. right now i have it plugged into my receiver now and playing through my stereo speakers so i know its the tv itself not just bad channel/show/reception etc. im going to Sears tomorrow to check out other tv possibilities that are a maximum price of $500. ive also read lots of reviews and this doesnt seem to be a normal issue so im still not opposed to another samsung. just dont want this terrible sound for $500.

questions here:
i dont have HD and dont plan to get it soon. i have this tv to save lots of space in my tiny tiny apt. will there be any noticable difference between 720p and 1080p without HD reception (i have regular directv)?

ive read lots about the motion blur and can see it in our samsung. also heard that 120hz is what to shoot for. as far as i can find my tv has a 6ms change rate.. i know that is not the same but that is all the information i can find regarding pixel change. any tv's i can find in this price range with 120hz? seems they are mostly at least a grand...

any help and knowledge is appreciated tons! lookin for 32" flat for $500 or under. CANNOT GO HIGHER.

already kinda irritated because i went from a badass sony trinitron flat screen (still huge box style atleast 120lbs) to an "entry level" lcd that does not look as good. still want to stick with flat panel though to save the space.

thanks - CB

you cannot tell a difference between 720 and 1080 with screens under 40". probably you can start to see some difference at 52" and higher; definitely with those 60"+...

120hz makes a difference when watching sports. i have a sony bravia z 120hz and have played with it; judder and lag is definitely less at 120hz. i turn it off when not watching sports.

i don't think you can get a 120hz set right now under 500. that could change in a few months; there are already 240hz sets out there.

if you're not watching sports in hd anyways, 120hz is insignificant. its the hd that makes judder more evident...

fyi...your local major network stations are transmitting over the air in hd; if direct tv is only piping in signals in "low d", the antenna connection on your new lcd should pickup those signals and you can take advantage of your new tv watching in hd...

cool, thanks for the info. i spent a lot of time last ngiht reading older threads and reviews online and whatnot. think i might try a sony bravia just to see if i by chance like it more. read some stuff about the samsung speakers being pointed downwards with plastic channel "forcing the sound out at an angle". other than that the samsung and sony seemed pretty neck to neck. appreciate the response
