I picked up this nice little folder by French up-and-coming maker Jérôme “Torpen” Hovaere. Nice thin edge, solid action, and overall just very pleasing little slipjoint.

Jérôme has called it Il Cafe as it captures the feel of an old French Cafe.

Interesting knife...like a folding version of a small fixed blade hunter or utility. Looks handy.

Give us some info on the steel and materials when you have the opportunity.

I would be my pleasure!

The steel is D2 and the handle is made of Micarta and brass. The knife opens easily to a confidence inspiring, solid open position. I have take a little time so sharpen her up the way I like too. Now she shaves hair above the skin :-)

And, to quote Jackknife: "I doesn't have to be big, as long as it is sharp!" That certainly goes for this knife.

Thanks for the info. Looks like an excellent companion.

It has a sod buster appeal to it...meant for work. Normally screws on a slip joint would bother me but not on this knife. I like it.

Hi,

Very nice! I agree with Morrow, it seems to be saying "Give me work to do"! I find the nail nick to be interesting. Looks like a small ball end mill was used to make it. It seems to fit the overall look of the knife quite well.

Very nice and interesting looking pattern there. I really like it. I love the blade shape and the collors of the handle and brass. Nice touch.

Agreed. I don't have too big of a problem with screws on a slip joint. What I would like to see is better "clocking" of the screws. If they all lined up the same it would give it even more of a custom look.

We need a "like" button for this one

Again, agreed.

Thank you for you comments! It is a sweet little knife from a maker to watch. The thin, sharp, edge is a pleasure to use.

I see what you like there, thin edge too, bet she slices great!

While I do prefer a bit lower point myself, it looks like a handy folder you have.

One of my favorite blade shapes is the modified Wairncliff too. But this one was just to nice to pass up. Besides, he is a young maker, who knows what the future will bring...

He knows how to grind them thin. It is a hungry little blade, fun to cut with.
