Morning folks! I'm on the search for one of these folders, now the big river shows one but it looks more like a knock off than the real thing, see this review here, always enjoy viewing Stefan Schmalhaus reviews, S schmalhaus here's one he did of the knife in question.

Now the one on the big river site has the look of that knife, but has an etched logo and nothing along the base of the blade, so, that makes me suspicious.

Any of you guys and gals own such a folder? I'd like to hear more about it, as it looks like a good down to earth type of folder.

I don't think it's a knock-off.
The original was designed and built by Guy Vialis, who passed sometime ago. The fabrication has been taken by Laguiole en Aubrac, thus no more "Vialis" signature on the tang.
The same thing happened to the Sauveterre pattern, and I suppose the other patterns (Gwalarn and Alpin) will come back soon.

I have one just like in the video, which I got off a man on long gone "British Blades" back in Oct 2017. I agree with everything said in the video, nice, well made knife. John

I remember that forum it’s been a while and thanks for your feedback about the knife

Well, got that in, but wasn't so great, so back she goes today, all the edges on the handle were sharper than the blade ;) go figure, and while the wood was finished nicely, it was overall too smooth that plus some side to side play. While I could have softened the corners and edges of the handle and sharpened the blade up, it was ground down fairly thin so I do believe it would have cut well, I was just not in the mood to do all the fixin' this time around.

So from the recommendation of a fellow porch sitter, I do have a Forge de Laguiole Tradition 11cm heading my way and hope to have it here by mid next week, fingers crossed this one will be nice...

keep us informed, i am living vicariously through your adventures. I just got a Sabot Yssingeaux in olivewood, nice file work. so not as fancy as the Laguiloe Pataud or the other you’re referred to, but a good solid user.
