Haven't finished this yet , a bit more work on the burnishing , and it needs a wax and polish .
Just run out of time today , but I'm very happy with it so far .
I'm off to bed early , got to get up at 2.30 am .

Looks very neat and tidy! how does she fit?
Shot of the back wouldn't hurt too ;)

Also wondered how their Carbone blades are? As all the one's I've owned were stainless and quite impressive!

I'll put up some more pictures of the back and such tonight .
I love Carbon Blades so I'm biased :)

Here is a pic of the back , and also one showing the different colour of the loop to match the belt .
I wont do a different coloured loop again , it was just a crazy idea , and now it see it don't like it .
I haven't done anymore finishing to the edges yet , work is just to busy .
This was an experimental sheath to try out a few ideas and I'm very happy with what it has taught me .
I wondered how long it would be until someone spotted the the mistake of the welt grain :)
I learnt from old information from Mike Tea posts about how to fix the problem of the gap you always get when making and forming this type of sheath .You insert by force a tapered wedge of leather into the hole. My brain must not have been working because I put it in the wrong way :grumpy:
I purposely posted that photo and wondered if anyone would see it .

Nice Ken, I like how that welt looks, almost cabinet making like :) and the belt loop looks tough too, nice stitching there sir!

Thanks Gary ,

I have been contemplating things and I think I'll try a different style of belt loop on the next one .
My real focus now is to improve the back side of my sheaths and try and get them right .
Each sheath I make I learn something from and it may sound crazy but I write a kind of list or diary of my assessment of each sheath and its successes and failures . I'm slowly working my way through the list of things I'm not happy with .

PS. Getting the stitching right through 5 layers of leather wasn't easy:)

Nice, a journal is a good thing, years from now it can be passed on to others, if you don't do sketches, maybe you can tape photos of your steps/work in process, could be very handy later on.

and yep, that's some thick stuff to sew through, back when I use to make fixed blade sheaths, I'd have some mighty thick welts to sew through! here's one that is recent,

a cross draw sheath that rides at an angle on your belt...

I love the tapered - skived welt on that sheath , does it really taper down that quickly or is it a illusion of the photo ?
Man getting the stitching right on both sides over that tapered area would be a " Mind Bender " .
Does the belt loop go all the way around ?
Could you wear it on either side ?
I must have a go at making a fixed blade sheath soon . I just need to convince the wife that I " need " a new knife .:)

thanks Ken, well sir, it's a short long story, suffice to say, just isn't my cup of tea, there are a LOT of really really good folks that LOVE to make fixed blade sheaths, as I have trouble trying to catch up with my folder requests, I don't have interest in fixed blades, at least at this time.
Maybe when we move to our new home and I get a real work shop, I might change my mind and take some orders in.
