Evening folks, I'm hoping that someone experienced could help me out. I bought my Le Thiers Compagnon about 8 years ago as I wanted a knife which I could enjoy and then hopefully pass on to my own kids. I haven't used it as much as I'd like as at some point in the last 2-3 years an issue has developed in that the blade no longer sits in the body correctly resulting in the point sticking out. This snags on my pocket or my hand and is annoying to say the least! I wonder if the front of the snap lock plate at the bottom of the blade needs grinding away slightly so that the angle with the snap lock bar is adjusted when it is sitting closed. I'd like to get it fixed and would like to know what is wrong before I send it off to anyone so if someone knows what is actually happening/has had this before that would be great! Also if anyone can suggest a knife maker who could repair it that would be fab.

If someone could explain how to add photos of the knife to this post that would also be fab!

The only thing I can think of is that there is some lint stuck in the blade well at the tang. Open it up halfway and see if there is lint there. Use a toothpick to remove it.

If it worked before, I sure wouldn't grind anything away. Probably just needs a good cleaning as lambertiana suggested. If that doesn't work I'd contact the manufacturer.

Yeah I thought the same but have cleaned it out thoroughly, and the position isn't compromised in the open or half way positions. The guy who made it has a one man shop in Thiers, and I suspect doesn't speak English. I'm in the process of trying to get a French friend to contact him.

If you can send him an email - or even a letter by post ;) - it would be easy enough to use google translate to tell him your problem. The effort to write in French would be appreciated and go a long way to reciprocal graciousness in wanting to repair your 8 year old knife.

Alternatively - you might ask Josh @razor-edge-knives if he might consider taking on this little mod.

Good luck.

Yeah this is true! I found a page on here by a guy called the Zieg and he mentioned the same issue. He resolved it by dremeling out a small part of the square heel which is what I was thinking too. So there are options

You're probably a very capable person, but unless you are absolutely certain on what you need to do to fix it I would definitely leave it to someone who is really experienced rather than hitting it with the Dremel. If you go too far or hit the wrong place it'll either make it worse, or it could be disastrous and you'll be buying a new knife, which is out of the question if it's sentimental at all. If the manufacturer is not available it's probably worth a little money to contact someone who does mods or custom work to see if they can fix it up, there are some seriously talented people on these forums.

I like the blade shape and style of those knives, I have a weakness for slicers.

@J Williams89 I would strongly advise to NOT modify the knife in any way. The tang and the spring are in a very close relation. If the notch (or the hook) is actually worn out, I see no dremelling doing any good. If you need translation to communicate with F.Pitelet, I will be happy to help out. Pictures will be of great help. You can send them as PM if the uploading on BF is a headache.
