I just bought a Piggyback & a Archeron. Both have state of CA lead warnings. Can I cut my steak?
Shoot, I'll be chewing it with my mercury fillings.

It's California. That in and of itself should tell you how little you have to worry. Even your plastic grocery bags have minute traces of lead in their construction. Don't worry about it. There's more lead in the air you breathe.

No worries, that is a result of CA's ultra-protective laws. Basically anything that is made of any type of metal is required to have that sticker on it. Only state that requires it. If you go into many outdoor stores in CA you will find that sticker plastered on almost everything. I use my KA-BAR's all the time cooking around the campfire. Be careful what type of cleaner you use, though. I recommend warm, soapy water followed by a good drying session. Follow with a light coat of mineral oil, which will keep it food safe, and be sure to wipe any excess mineral oil away. Good luck and let us know if you have any other questions.

Cool. That's what I figured. Just never saw it on my mil stuff or my Beckers.

No worries, any metal in California only causes cancer IN California. Anywhere else and you are cancer free!!

So the knife has no lead in it and they put the sticker on the knife?

I've used both the piggyback and Acheron in the kitchen/at the table. I'm still alive.

I was recently in CA and saw that sticker on something that made me look twice. I started looking at other products on the shelves and the stickers were plastered on everything, seemingly whether they were at risk or not. We do a great deal of testing on each of our products and use our own knives daily. I use a Piggyback to cut apples at my desk. No need to worry, Big Brother is just being a bit overprotective.

Overprotective to the point of believing asprin will give you cancer.

Warning: Breathing air may lead to lung problems, asthma, shortness of breathe, longness of breathe, dry mouth, wet mouth, impaired vision, enhanced vision, depression, euphoria, and a host of other symptoms.

I think they still have smog in LA though. Gives rise to the old saying, "Do as we say, not as we do." :D

The smog is overwhelming. Being the good country boy I am the first time I flew into LA all I could think is "that is the most fog I have ever seen in my life." Next day I realized it wasn't fog...

I edited my post, I didn't want to too big of a jerk. Just a little one.

Yes, LA is crazy with smog. My family could only stand a few days then we had to leave.:D

Jerk? Never crossed my mind, didn't see anything wrong with your post to think otherwise. We are a sarcastic bunch in WNY (as Guyon, Moose and Bladite can attest to) so we enjoy the witty banter.

We all die due to heart failure. The only difference is what underlying issue caused the heart to quit working.

I'm much more likely to expire due to an overdose of bacon than lead from a Kabar.

I'll take the piddly little bitty amount of lead that POSSIBLY MIGHT leach out of a Kabar over the much higher concentrations of lead that naturally occurs in organically grown Kalifornia produce.
