Leaf Springs- Which Steel?

I’m looking at buying some used truck leaf springs ( from arctic trailers) to make blades. I’m hoping they’re 5160 but I don’t know. Is there any way of knowing or telling what kind of spring steel they are?

No.
They are most likely not 5160. Could be 9260 or any of several alloys. HT them like 5160 and you should be OK.

If youre going to buy steel, then just buy good, known knife steels from a reputable dealer. Alpha knife supply is a good source. It's cheaper than you think.

The only way I use unknown steel, like used automotive springs is if I get them for free.

And then I only use it for test pieces, or something im going to keep.
