my leafstorm has developed a squeaking sound when i close it, it didn't at first, but a month later is when it started. i tried a couple of other oils but didn't help. i don't want to take it apart either. any idea's:confused:

Squeeking, hmmm.

I'd look at the ball in the lock bar and see if it is corroded or some such.

Not sure what to do about it if the ball is, though.

yeah, you broke it. :( send it to me, I love broken knives.

Try washing it well with warm soapy water then blowing out the pivot area with a compressor. Then re-lubinig. But taking it apart and reassembly should be pretty easy because it's a RIL.

NO, it's not broke. just a little squeak. i'll try the hot bath treatment and see what happens...

Detent ball should make same sound opening or closing. sounds like dry pivot bushing.

If you don't want to disassemble knive, I would do a real hot bath followed with hair dryer, then oil the pivot and apply a drop of grease into detent hole with a pin or toothpick. You can see the detent through gap in lock cutout. This will apply lube to detent ball and ball track.

i did exactly that Wally, it's stopped squeaking, hot soapy bath, a hot blow dryer, and just a drop of militec on the ball and hole. everythings fine! thanks for all the help!! it's funny how simple things work...

I am thinking about the Leafstorm more & more. Kind of torn between that and the Sage 2. One made in Golden, the other Taiwan, what to do....

the leafstorm is awesome, to me a great edc. just a cool knife!!! i get a lot of compliments on this little jewel...

Depends on how good your hearing is. When new, Leafstorms have a rough opening/closing sound until detent ball wears a circular "track" in grind marks on blade tang.
