Leafstorm vs. Techno

I can't believe this hasn't been discussed here before, but I couldn't find anything with the search function.

The upcoming Techno seems very similar to the Leafstorm in a few different ways, so it got me to thinking about the two knives and how they compare. I've not seen too many other knives within Spyderco that are this similar (possibly the Para-2 and Superleaf). Obviously the two knives are different in a lot of ways. But both are similar size (with similar handle/blade ratio). Both are Ti frame locks, and are only $30 apart (the difference in steel could almost explain that cost).

Is the Techno supposed to replace the Leafstorm or is it just a very similar offering?

There's no "replacement". Spyderco releases lots of knives in collaboration with various designers and knife-makers. The Techno is by Marcin Slysz, while the Leaf Storm is a design by Kevin Wilkins, are two different animals.

Spyderco does manufacture knives in production runs, which means that quantities will run out unless a decision is made to have additional runs.

I didn't know that both were collabs with different makers. That's pretty cool (now I'm going through pics of each of Slysz and Wilkins' knives).

Leafstorm for the win.

What's with all these wire clips lately?

If the Techno's blade was 1" longer and it had a solid pocket clip, you would have the Spyderco flagship.

So close..........

ETA: That's not a bad idea.
3.5" drop-point blade, Ti framelock, solid clip, made in Golden, Co. Call it "Flagship" ;)

to my knowledge the majority of people prefer the wire clip...

the techno looks more ergonomic with some all around better features.

"all good, just different".

For some reasons techno didn't attract me at all. But I really like my LeafStorm, still I wish ergos would be better.

I hadn't looked up the Techno until just now.

Man I love the knife, and really love Spyderco's wire clip. I wish it had a 3" blade, as the really small knives doesn't fit my hand well at all.

I may just have to pick up both. I too like the wire clip simply because it is one of the few out there that does not tear up my pockets. I have seen youtube vids of the Leafstorm where people comment on how small it is in the hand. They both may end up suffering from lack of handle length.

Don't get me wrong, the wire clips work well. I just don't find them aesthetically pleasing.
The look dainty.

LOL..... very true, they do look dainty. I had a hard time with the looks of the clip in the beginning but have become a little tired of torn up pants pockets. The wire clip really seems to solve that in combination with the smooth Ti scale.
