I had an order for a mirror polished chefs knife. I hate mirrors. Especially on a kitchen knife where food release is a concern but the customer gets what they want. Oh well.

Grinder to 400 grit then back to 240 for hand sanding up to 2000 before polishing. I use Windex for lubricant, sand wipe clean repeat. Always sand in bias directions.

I was having troubles getting rid of the coarser grit scratches. They just kept coming back and I had to keep going back to 600. Just a single scratch here and there.

Then I realized that I wasn't changing my paper towel enough to wipe the blade clean. Worst of all, I wasn't changing between grits. Head Smack. Stupid Stupid Stupid. Whats a sheet of shop towel worth 1 cent or so?

Used fresh towels and it it polished right up in minutes. I'm sure nobody is dumb enough to do this (or a least air it out on a public forum) but please learn from my mistake.

Yeah, hand sanding is for the birds. I recently did some and used some fresh microfiber clothes to carefully wipe the whole area periodically.

We all learn that paper towels are supposed to be disposable for a good reason.

BTW, as a registered user you are not supposed to talk about sales, customers, and orders. Just leave that part out and the discussion about your issue and solution is fine. Please edit it.

It should read like this - "I was working on a mirror polished chefs knife. I hate mirrors. Especially on a kitchen knife where food release is a concern .
