I was wondering if there are any good online resources for showing knot tying, or a good book that's in print? Any info will be helpful, thanks in advance.

There are at least two free apps for smart phones that are really good also.

Thanks for posting that link JV3. For some odd reason I have a learning deficiency when it comes to knots. Can anybody give me 4 or 5 good knots, (bushcraft oriented), maybe in order of ease or best to know?
Thanks ahead,

I'll give you my top, figure 8, bowline, taunt line hitch, prusik and sheet bend. IMO You can do about anything that needs doing with those. Chris

here's my most used knots (for setting up my shelter otherwise i don't normally need to tie any knots while camping other than the bear bag line):
- adjustable grip hitch: for tensioning tarp lines.
- constrictor knot: can be used to hold two poles, etc. together.
- double fisherman's bend/grapevine knot: for joining two ropes together to make a longer one.

people like taut line hitch but i prefer the adjustable grip hitch instead:

Thanks again JV3, and I'll be checking out those too August. It's about time I get this skill under my belt; much appreciated.

IAWoodsman's Canadian Jam Knot! He does a great how-to on youtube and it's about the simplest, most effective knot you can learn. One way I learned is by using two different colors of parachute cord. I cut an OD and an orange length at about 3 feet so that I can follow and process each line throughout the entire process. Makes life alot easier. Another thing I took out of learning knots is that this is really a muscle memory task. If you try to learn knot making by looking at pictures instead of focusing on the step-by-step motion, you'll make it harder on yourself. Best part is the muscle memory is already there when you're done learning them that way.

I like the idea of using the two colours Payette and will give that a go, hopefully it helps? And hopefully the muscle memory thing works, I'll be getting to it this weekend so I'll try to keep that in my mind too.
Thanks for the tips!
