Not sure if this has been asked but here goes...

When it comes to knives, what is your least favorite, or least useful blade length (in your opinion)?

I seem to have a gap in my collection. My fixed blades are usually 3" to 4.5" for usual camp/hunting chores and 7"+ for heavy/field work. I'm completely satisfied with knives in those ranges and have not found a use for knives in the 5" to 6" range yet.

6" seems a bit large for brushcraft and camp chores and too short for chopping and heavy work. A friend of mine has a Black Jack AWAC, and while its a very nice knife, its just an odd size and doesn't appeal to me at all.

When it comes to shorter knives (folders), I have found just about all lengths useful for one task or another. From 1.5" sheepsfoot blades on Stockman's to 4" EDC's for everything from dressing game to opening the mail, I can justify any of 'em.

So if you had to choose a blade length to leave out of your collection, what would it be?

under 2" and over 4" for a folder
Outside the kitchen, between 5" and 12 " on fixed. Only one I have in that range is a CS Bushman. I like it because it has thin stock, like a kitchen knife. I realized not too long ago that I have no use for 'choppers', machete or axe for me.

With folders I'm flexible. A Vic Classic is long enough, but using a larger Opinel or a Manix doesn't feel overly cumbersome, it's generally just more knife than I need. I find the length of a standard SAK blade to an Opinel No8 to be ideal for myself. But I'll carry larger and smaller without much in the way of compromise.

For fixed blades, I stick to smaller blades. I'd generally just like to use my SAK saw when needed than lug around an adequate chopper, which to me means at least 7 inches of solid blade. No, I'm happier with the saw-equipped SAK and a small mora or small traditional fixed blade. Something like the Benchmade activators would suit me well.

Fixed are nice for their sturdiness, ease of cleaning etc. Generally however I carry a medium sized folder and maybe a Classic. Fixed are just when I go out into woodsy areas, but that might change if I get a small EDC fixed like I plan to.
