Leather affecting G-10 scales?

I bought a SW Vex at Bladeshow, and leather sheath from Rowe's leather to go with it.

When unsheathing it, it seem the leather if affecting the G-10. Making the blue scales whiteish.

Have any of you guys ever experienced that? If so, can it be prevented? Other than not using the sheath...

Put a little Sno-Seal leather treatment on the sheath and you can wipe the G-10 down with a finger tips worth of Mineral Oil and it's all good. What is happening is that the leather is drawing the oil that must have been on the G-10 off the G-10 and absorbing it into the leather.

Not a problem Bro I have worked around this MANY times!!! I have many of K.Rowes leather sheaths as well as Chuddy Bear, Leatherman, Rainwalker and they all do it.

G10 is impervious to liquids, oils etc. so whatever you're seeing is more than likely on the surface. Take a toothbrush and a light abrasive of your choice (mines toothpaste) and brush it off and you should be fine.

Yes G-10 is impervious to oils BUT you can still get a RESIDUE on the surface. If it's turning white it normally were it's just soaked up into the leather. I work with G-10 and G-11, as well as all 3-Micarta's all the time. I use chemicals in a %age most people can't buy. Put a little shine back on her and she will be happy, happy happy:)

Thanks!

I will go ahead and do that.
It already looks better on the scales after a bit of oil.
Then I will see to get my hands on some leather seal.

Great!!! G-10 is kind of strange in that if you carry it out in the weather much, over time it will start to have that fadded out look. Piece of cake, just rub it down with a little oil of some kind and it pops right back out. I will use Food Grade Mineral oil on anything that gets close to meat or veggies. I also use it on Canvas and Linen Micarta and the oil brings out the grain structure of the micarta whcih sometimes is a fantastic pattern.

Good luck in your progress Bro!!!
