Sorry, this has nothing to do with sheaths.
I'm just fishing for input on stuff to treat my new boots with.
He's my Xmas gift...

Now, is the Fiebing's Aussie Leather Conditioner with Beeswax that I got for my sheath attempts an appropriate way to treat these boots?
What would you use, and would you clean the brand new leather before applying the goop?
Soap and water fine to clean them?
I've primarily used mink oil in the past but it seems to create problems with the stitching. Beeswax works... I don't know if I like it or not.
Manufacturers don't always want their products to last (repeat customers spend more money) and I'd rather hear some input from actual leather workers.
Please forgive the boot question in BF.
There is some excellent input here that often is very relevant with things that have nothing to do with knives.
Thanks.

I like Obenauf's heavy duty lp. It seems to last a while. It also makes the leather resistant to abrasion. It's the best i've found. I would not worry about cleaning the boots before applying. They may be treated from the factory and this will cause them not to absorb the treatment at first. I usually apply at least two coats, depending on how they absorb the Obenaufs. They look like nice boots. Take care of them and they will last a long time. Goodluck!

Never heard of the stuff. I'm only finding really good stuff about it online.
Glad I asked.
Thanks

ditto on the Obenauf's HD LP. Best product I have used for protecting leather that gets hard use and exposure to manure & chemicals.

The Merrell Wilderness is a great boot and is about as close as you can get off the shelf to the custom boots Randy Merrell makes and who has not been associated with Merrell boots for many years.

What does Merrell recommend? I know the Danner's I just picked up have their own brand of leather conditioners.
