Leather for Lanyards & Other Uses

I have several things I'd like to string with leather. I want something very strong but flexible. I've seen it, like for boot straps but everything I'm coming across now is thin and easily broken stuff from China or other third world countries. It's more for decorative use than actual use. Can anyone point me in the right direction and tell me what to look for?

Kangaroo leather lace. Do an on-line search and you'll find several good suppliers.
The stuff is very strong, very flexible, and easy to work with.

You can also buy a lace maker (very inexpensive) and use scrap leather squares to make some.
